Removed Comment They spoiled everything. They show Rocky, hell even showing that he meets an alien should of been held back. But the biggest one was the fact that he was a coward who didn't want to go. That was a huge revival in the novel. Sick fucking 3 minute trailers that spoil everything. I don't need to see the movie They already shown me everything. Plus the Martain was not a good movie excellent book. Removed Comment sometimes, just because something is offends you, or used to be considered an diagnosis, doesn't mean it's a slur. If you think that, then you can't call anyone "stupid" or "idiot" or "imbecile". Those all used to be official categories to classify (and quote the dictionary) "moderate to severe mental retardation". "sperg" isn't a slur, because it's not diagnosis, much like how [idiot](https://lemmy.world/post/38052894/20229575) isn't a slur. It's colloquially (see: slang) used to describe a person who is obsessive about a hyper niche interest/hobby, often to the point of their own humiliation. Removed Comment It's absolutely what they were saying. "Look in the mirror" and calling the French gay are longstanding insults/retorts. They aren't reiterated without intent. Second, the "Nu uh! You are!" argument when people call out racism and other bigotry is nothing new, either. The intent is to discredit criticism instead of addressing the problems that are called out, and to normalize those issues by creating a chilling effect on others calling it out in the future for fear of being seen as a bigot themselves. by Ech@lemmy.ca
