Linux@lemmy.world•Considering switching from Windows 11 and I have some questionsEnglish
18·5 months agoI can tell you macros in Excel will more than likely not transfer. As for formatting, 50/50 depending on how in-depth it is. I would advise dual booting/vm for Excel. There just is no other program as powerful. I’m not saying Libre or others can’t do what your looking to do, but more than likely would need a rebuild to get there.
Since they mentioned the Xbox Ally version, check if they want Game Pass access, it’s not Linux compatible.

Watching Professor X mentally decline hit so fucking close to home. When it came out, I had just lost my grandad (who raised me), and it was like watching a home movie in certain parts. Stewart nailed the fog of dementia that can ebb ad flow, and the relationship between him and Wolverine was pitch perfect.
I have no idea what to expect from this.
I’m kind of excited.
I am not a neat freak by any stretch of the imagination. The mess my wife can make for just daily tasks is mind-blowing to me.
We have probably a 12-foot long dual sink counter in our bathroom. Her shit fills her side and will make it to my side. I can have all my day to day stuff in a foot square space.

Mechanical Keyboards@programming.dev•Recently got myself a Keychron Q11, my first split keyboard, very happy with it
1·5 months agoI don’t have the split, but I have the low profile Keychron 65% and agree it’s the best one I’ve had yet.
Jurassic Park.
It was the first time that visual effects truly made me immersed in the movie. It also woke me up to how movies can be more than just entertainment and have messages that can resonate. Even though it was a blockbuster summer movie, it turned movies into potential art for me. I never looked at a movie the same way after.
In a single person’s lifetime, we went from not flying to landing on the moon. We absolutely can produce AGI in most of our lifetimes. I predict within 15-20 years, we will have a functioning AGI. It may also need to coincide with actually figuring out quantum computing just for sheer computational needs.
This all hinges on if investments in AI continue at its current pace, which we already see cracks in though.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is my GPU's "3D" usage spiking so wildly when I'm not even playing a game? It keeps throttling up and throttling down and the noise is extremely annoying
4·6 months agoI can use your “fiddling with your os” as an argument against Linux too. Driver changes, software updates, software in general can cause ANY OS to require fiddling with to get back to operational.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Spicy food never affects my gut and everyone thinks it's really weird. How unusual is this and what could be happening to explain why spicy food doesn't affect me?

Games@lemmy.world•The Witcher 4 Developer Calls Xbox Series X "Extremely Challenging" for 60FPSEnglish
4·6 months agoYou have 2 options for the S. Aim for 60 fps, or 30fps. If you target 60, most newer engine titles will look like the new Doom did at 60 fps, garbage. You have to run at such a low resolution to make it possible. At 30fps, you can at least not look like your screen is smeared with vaseline at the sacrifice of smoothness.
Give the player the option of 30/60 so they we can play how we want.

10·6 months agoMy wife’s family is full hispanic, and most of them can’t approach the heat levels that I, a white guy, can take. I could always take spicy food, and no, it didn’t take years of being around it to build tolerance. Some people can just take high heat.
Such a weird take basing spice tolerance on race.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do some people hate drinking water?
17·6 months agoGrew up on well water, it tasted funny. Most water I tried to drink was from water fountains, tasted like copper. First bottled water I drank was Deja Blue, and it tasted like hose water. So I thought all water tasted like ass.
I didn’t get that water could taste good until I drank actual bottled spring water. Now I have nice water filters that make my tap taste just fine, and I know what brands of water to buy if I need to.

Mine are almost always a chaotic grid like pattern. Lines perpendicular to each other but of varying lengths. I did an art piece once trying to describe my anxiety/add brain, and it was the closest representation I could get to wanting structure and organization but unable to obtain it.
